BIOGRAPHY
Who is Mr. Tony and what shaped his career in outdoor gear development?
Mr. Tony has spent over three decades shaping the world of technical outdoor gear. From his humble beginnings in Queens, New York, to becoming a recognized leader in global sourcing and product development, Tony’s journey is a unique blend of outdoor passion, hands-on leadership, and deep industry knowledge. His early love for the mountains started with local Boy Scout trips in the Adirondacks, evolving into countless hiking, canoeing, and backpacking adventures across the Northeast. That passion soon became profession when Tony joined Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS) in retail and climbed the ranks to manage three high-volume stores in the NY metro area.

In 1992, Tony transitioned to the EMS headquarters in New Hampshire, joining a new product development and quality assurance team. He quickly became a pioneer in working directly with overseas suppliers, especially in Asia, long before it became the industry standard. His first trip to the Far East in 1993 marked the beginning of what would become a lifelong expertise—building strong, respectful relationships with international factories and material suppliers to create high-performance outdoor gear. It was on these trips that factory staff, unfamiliar with American names, began greeting him with signs that read “Mr. Tony”—a nickname that stuck and became the brand you see today.

Tony’s career includes a 26-year tenure at EMS, where he ultimately became Director of Global Manufacturing, managing over 30 global suppliers across continents. He later brought his expertise to Big Agnes as Director of Sourcing, where he oversaw the sourcing team, developed proprietary materials like Fireline insulation and Hyperbead tent fabrics, and implemented sustainability and compliance standards across the supply chain. Today, through Mr. Tony LLC, he shares his unmatched experience with small and mid-sized outdoor brands, helping them navigate the complexities of product development, sourcing, compliance, and quality assurance with confidence and integrity.
